On Sunday October 1st, the Miami Design District (MDD) will proudly kick off the eighth annual Fashion Strikes Cancer event series, marking the commencement of a month-long celebration dedicated to supporting the noble cause of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). As the preeminent breast cancer organization in the United States, BCRF’s mission serves to end breast cancer by advancing the world's most promising research. Conceived by fashion visionary, stylist, and courageous breast cancer survivor, Angeles Almuna, Fashion Strikes Cancer was founded with a mission to offer solace and inspiration to those enduring, who have persevered, or who have sadly lost loved ones to breast cancer. This year’s ticketed events will honor LaTonya Davis.

LaTonya is a six year triple negative breast cancer survivor who lost both her mother and only sister to the disease. As a former collegiate sprinter, LaTonya approached cancer as an opponent who was strong and intimidating--but beatable. LaTonya is a ‘CDC Foundation 2021 Cancer Free Challenge Honorable Mention’ winner; a ‘National Breast Cancer Coalition Project Lead’ graduate; and Komen Advocacy Ambassador. She also manages an inspirational purpose-driven brand, “The Breast Talk Ever,” the first entrepreneurship meets cancer survivorship podcast where she hosts entrepreneurs who have made it their business and life’s purpose to be game changers in the cancer community. LaTonya is also in the process of creating her own jewelry collection. A portion of the proceeds from her jewelry sales will help fund mammograms and breast ultrasounds for uninsured women in underserved communities.

All through the month of October, the MDD will host several initiatives throughout the neighborhood to show their support. For the entire month, the neighborhood’s styling suite will turn pink. Additionally, MIA Market will be offering a specialty pink menu featuring The Pale Rosé along with a specially curated pink cocktail made with ATIAN Rose Gin. MIA Market will donate $1 from every glass of The Pale Rosé and $1 from every ATIAN Rose Gin cocktail sold to BCRF. Furthermore, ATIAN Rose Gin will be donating $1 from every ATIAN Rose Gin feature cocktail sold to the Dolphins Challenge Cancer.

This year, the MDD is also hosting an invite-only fashion show in collaboration with designer Valeria Krasavina and sponsored by Poggi Design, taking place on October 26th. Following the fashion show, the event will transition into a fashion exhibit, which will run through Sunday, October 29th. The show marks Krasavina’s fourth year collaboration with the MDD and Fashion Strikes Cancer, and will double as her debut fashion show as an emerging designer. Furniture design store Luminaire will provide 150 chairs for the show.
