without breaking the bank
Words / Anthoanette Rojas @happyjeepsy
Nowadays the idea of supporting a diverse closet as any stylish gal would, and chances are if you are reading this you are means to some having a sustainable budget just for your fashion needs. Me I have a couple different sources of income, I’m also a bargain shopper, a best deal hunter but most importantly I have a wide eye for the many options available to make yourself stylish without breaking the bank.
Moving from Peru to California as a teenager was an adjustment from thinking that wearing the trend of the moment was the thing to do, to once here being influenced by pop culture well into my early 20’s. Working as a full time e-commerce model is also in my résumé, here I got my daily kick for wearing all pretty, girly, hot items of clothing and for about 4 years out of the 6 my “Model Off-duty look” kicked in majorly. After being exposed to different design styles, trends, etc.
I became more comfortable with wearing what I felt like the day of, yes taking elements from what’s trending but making it my own. One of my favorite quotes: "Don't be into trends. Don't make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live." —Gianni Versace
I know some of you are most likely saying, “well it’s not that simple” or “I just don’t have it in me” blah blah blah. Most certainly I do believe that some of us are more skilled than others for this kind of thing, which is precisely the reason (for those it does not come so “second nature”) one of the hats I wear is of a personal shopper/stylist. I help women who are not as “creative” or simply don’t have time to style themselves as they wish.
I love showing them ways to mix and match, take a look at what’s in their closet with a different set of eyes, learn how to embrace what looks good on them while implementing items to stay relevant to current trends, if desired as this is not a must when it comes to style. Fun fact I’m currently giggling at the fact the everyone is going crazy about an outfit that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle wore yesterday and I work the exact combo and colors last weekend, pure coincidence or royal style? And you know what else I got it all from H&M.
Sure I love and drool over high-end designer garments, sure I want to say YOLO and drop a few grand on a bag but I also have more significant ways to spend my money, I am all for investing in great pieces but you don’t need a designer closer to look good and be stylish, find your local sample sales, host swap parties with your
friends, read blogs for style tips, make time for yourself pour a glass of wine, play your favorite
playlist, stand in front of a full length mirror and go at it with everything you have in your closet, make it
fun. If you need a little extra help I’m a message away and remember "Style is something each of us
already has, all we need to do is find it." —Diane von Furstenberg
