The co-founder behind Purdy Lounge, Sweet Liberty & Blackbird Ordinary, Dan Binkiewicz and Mauricio Lacayo of The Bend Liquor Lounge are thrilled to announce the opening of their newest nightlife venture, Mama Tried. Alongside nightlife veterans including Domingo Murillo of Sidebar Miami, Mama Tried opened in June, a self-proclaimed upscale dive at 207 N.E. 1 st Street, in the heart of downtown Miami. “Mama Tried is a group effort from an enthusiastic crew of people who share the same passion to see something weird, different and affordable in Downtown Miami,” says co-owner and one of Miami’s leading nightlife veterans, Dan Binkiewicz, “from the programming, to the wall decor, to the menu, everywhere you look, we took risks.”

Mama Tried offers a neighborhood haunt for locals and tourists whether they are looking for a quiet spot for happy hour or a rowdy late-night scene. The 2,250-square foot space features an island style walnut bar in the center under a mesmerizing sky ceiling featuring twinkling fiber optic stars. Designed by Binkiewicz, the primary colors feature black, gold, dark green and burgundy echoing an old Vegas dive bar. Rounded leather banquets and high-top tables line the walls with seating for up to 65 including bar stools, while gold disco lamps hang from the ceiling. The bar doesn’t fall short on entertainment featuring an authentic Pac Man arcade game, digital jukebox, pool table, TV’s, and a hand-picked Bookleggers Library, the local nonprofit that supplies free books to the city of Miami founded and operated by Mama Tried partner, Nathaniel Sandler.

“Downtown Miami is special to me,” says Binkiewicz, “my first job was here as a young man. The neighborhood is edgy, it’s gritty, and we think we’ve built something that fit just right.” The music program at Mama Tried will be eclectic, paying tribute to old school classics as well as new school hits. The weekly music menu features R&B on Tuesdays, Ladies’ Night on Wednesdays, “Satan’s River” country music night on Thursdays, Friday and Saturdays will feature various local DJs, closing out the week with “Disco Sinferno” Sundays.
