Miami-Based Alec Monopoly to Launch Standalone Streetwear Line
An extension of his art, fans and consumers alike can purchase exclusive numbered
apparel pieces designed by the street artist magnate
Today, renowned global street artist and designer Alec Monopoly announces the upcoming launch of ALEC, a standalone luxury streetwear clothing brand designed and inspired by the popular currency and pop-culture depictions that brought Monopoly to worldwide fame. As a pioneering clothing brand merging streetwear and contemporary art, Monopoly has aptly coined the limited edition collection as “Street Art Wear,” where each article of clothing is numbered and produced in limited quantities, paralleling the one-of-a-kind nature and experience of purchasing Alec’s luxury paintings. Alec has collaborated on the brand with this brother and longtime manager Avery Andon who will act as the CEO, while fashion industry veteran Vincent Audigier (who was previously the President of Christian Audigier) has been tapped as COO to oversee logistics and international distribution.
With previous collections for household retail brands such as Philipp Plein, Forever 21, and Tag Heuer, this launch stands as Alec’s first ever solo retail endeavor with a line entirely designed and produced on his own. The collection features 14 SKU’s, including t-shirts, intricately embroidered sweaters and denim jackets, and a weather resistant jacket with matching pants patterned with Alec’s signature cash camouflage print. Additional items will feature Alec’s trademark vibrant colors, characters, and satirical depictions that propelled the graffiti king to fame.
“Having my own clothing brand has been a lifelong dream, and I spent years designing and perfecting this debut collection. It’s all super limited as a continuation of my art!” says Monopoly. “I didn’t want to just release a t-shirt and hoodie like everyone else; we worked with factories around the world to create an entire Cut & Sew collection including everything from Denim Jackets to Rain Coats and Embroidered Polo’s.”
From May 8th to May 23rd, the collection will be released during a limited ALEC pop-up on 40th and 2nd in the heart of the Miami Design District next to Maison Margella. On Friday May 7th, Monopoly will be hosting an in-person VIP preview event unveiling the full collection to guests and friends.
“We understand how competitive and challenging the fashion industry is, but feel that ALEC is the first brand to truly merge fine art and clothing in a relevant way. Introducing Street Art Wear,” says Andon. “Launching Alec’s standalone clothing brand is an exciting step for us - not only does it give our collectors a way to bring Alec’s art with them wherever they go, but it also makes it possible for diehard fans who can’t afford original paintings to buy a t-shirt or hat and share that connection of owning Alec’s art.”
